10 Tips To Feel More Comfortable on an Airplane

Whether long or short, flights usually are uncomfortable and quite unpleasant in general. That’s, of course, the economy class I’m talking about.

However, I personally enjoy the fuss around flying, the overall ambiance at the airports. I love spending my time at airports, drinking my cup of coffee and writing my diary or watching people walk by with their suitcases and writing life stories of them in my head. The whole experience of flying generates a unique inspiration and creativity in me, which is very positive, but in order to stay comfortable rather than unpleasant, there are a few things to remember before taking your next flight. Here I’ll share with you the 10 tips that have helped me increase the comfortability of flying.

1. Wear some comfy socks

First thing I do after taking a seat? Shoes off – comfy socks on! For some reason, taking your shoes off makes you feel waaaay more comfortable!

2. Wear comfortable layers

I don’t know about you, but I always get cold on flights. To avoid freezing for hours, I always take an extra sweater with me. A big, soft and warm sweater that keeps me comfortable during the flight is one of the most essential travel-things to me. Don’t think about short dresses, fashionable (and uncomfortable) blazers and tight pants, think about your comfort!

3. Have a travel pillow/neck supporter

This is one of the best! I personally own an inflatable neck pillow. It takes only two breaths of mine until it’s soft and comfy, and in addition, I can basically fit it in my tiny purse. Just think about it, your neck, back, and neighbor’s shoulder will thank you.

4. Take your sleeping mask

It will make it so much easier to fall asleep or simply rest your eyes. You won’t be bothered by the lights around you, as well as by stewardesses and other passengers.

5. Drink enough water

The air in flights is dry and it dehydrates your skin very fast, which can cause dry eyes and even headaches. Therefore it’s very important to stay hydrated and keep drinking water!

6. Beauty articles

On that note, don’t forget to bring a few beauty articles with you as well. For example, lip balm, moisturizer, and hand-cream are handy things to have in your hand-luggage. These will make you feel a lot more fresh and comfortable during your flight.

7. Bring some food with you

Yes, there is airplane-food, as well as a couple of snacks, but we all know how the quality can be and how much it all costs sometimes. So it’s always a good idea to bring something yourself. My favorite travel-snacks are a small pack of nuts or some fruit (apple, banana).

8. Earplugs and earphones

Sometimes these can be such a lifesaver! The bustling in the plane can be quite annoying – people chatting, children crying, you name it. It’s so much nicer to distance yourself from all the noise around you and becomes easier to fall asleep or simply relax.

9. Walk around the plane

Of course, it can feel a little awkward to randomly walk back and forth the aisle just like that, but your body definitely needs some blood flowing and it will no doubt make you feel fresher. I always combine the walk with a bathroom visit.

10. Use your time

Whether it’s two hours or eleven, it’s more fun to use your time doing things you like. So bring a book, diary, charged tablet/laptop, work/homework, games, whatever, to use the time!
