First-ever routes worth noting

  • Nuremberg, Germany: easyJet’s first-ever service to the Bavarian city, launching from Manchester, London Gatwick and London Luton.
  • Scotland to Tromsø: the first direct connection between Scotland and the Arctic city, with introductory fares from £20.99 one-way – perfect for chasing the Northern Lights. If you are further south, there are also direct flights from London to Tromsø to watch for.
  • Isle of Man to Geneva: the Isle of Man’s first international route and its only direct link to Switzerland, flying weekly on Saturdays from 19 December.

Winter sun, city breaks and the Northern Lights

The new network neatly covers every type of winter trip:

  • Winter sun: Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh (from London Southend) and Morocco’s capital Rabat (from London Luton). easyJet already flies to Egypt elsewhere – see its direct flights from Berlin to Cairo – and Sharm is a classic Red Sea escape, like these cheap Sharm El Sheikh fares.
  • City breaks: Budapest (from Bristol, Belfast and Liverpool), Krakow (Glasgow), Vienna (Manchester), Nuremberg, Lyon and Geneva – ideal for Christmas-market season.
  • Arctic adventure: Tromsø sits inside the Arctic Circle and is one of Europe’s best Northern Lights bases.

What easyJet said

Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be announcing a further 13 new routes this winter, bringing the number of new routes on sale over the past two weeks to a total of 26.” The 13 routes connect the UK with nine countries: Hungary, Germany, Poland, Austria, France, Egypt, Morocco, Norway and Switzerland.

Part of a wider winter land-grab

easyJet is not alone in racing to add winter capacity. airBaltic recently added 12 new winter routes, while Ryanair launched 21 new routes from Tirana. easyJet, which was named the best short-haul airline by Business Travel Europe, is clearly determined to keep pace – and travellers are the winners. For the cheapest seats, keep an eye on its regular easyJet sales.
