Prague Airport to End Liquid & Electronic Devices Restrictions on Carry-on Bags Soon

Prague Airport has announced that the security check at the second terminal will gradually become more convenient for all passengers by 2026 as the airport is planning to renew its screening system with a more modern one.

Through a recent press release, Prague Airport said as soon as the current system gets replaced, passengers will no longer have to worry about the number of liquids they can take on their carry-on luggage.

The same stressed that passengers would be able to keep their electronic devices in the suitcase, meaning that they will not be required to take their electronics out for checks, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“The security check at Terminal 2 will be more convenient. From 2024, we plan to gradually replace X-rays with more modern ones that will allow liquids and electronic devices to be left inside the luggage. It will also be possible to relax the rule on the transport of liquids with a volume limitation of up to 100 ml,” Prague Airport wrote on its official Twitter account.

Commenting on the decision to renew the screening system, the executive director of Prague Airport Security, Radek Kučera, said that by doing this, the airport aims to increase comfort during security checks.

Kučera further stressed that the plan is to acquire X-rays with computed tomography that will allow liquids and electronics to be left inside the luggage during checks.

However, this option will only apply at the airport’s Terminal 2 as, due to space limitations of decentralised screening, it is currently impossible to implement devices at Terminal 1.

“Implementation of new equipment for Terminal 1 is linked to construction modifications and further development of the airport,” Kučera added.

Prague Airport plans to progressively replace the current X-ray system with a more advanced one at Terminal 2 between 2024 and 2026.

Until then, all passengers will only be allowed to take liquids in their carry-on in a package with a maximum volume of 100 ml. In addition, they will continue to be required to place liquids in a transparent resealable plastic bag with a maximum volume of a litre per person.

Prague Airport introduced limitations on liquids permitted to be taken on carry-on bags back in 2006, and since then, everyone has been required to meet the rules when travelling through the airport.

Prague Airport is among the European airports that register a high number of passengers each year. Just recently, the airport announced that it would offer direct flights to 152 this summer and, this way, reach around 80 per cent of its 2019 levels.
