Ryanair will only accept digital boarding passes from this week — here’s what to know
Starting Wednesday, 12 November 2025, Ryanair is ditching print-at-home boarding passes: you’ll check in as usual but must show a digital pass in the myRyanair app at security and the gate. The switch covers almost all routes, with a few hold-outs where local rules still demand paper—Morocco, most of Turkey (Dalaman excepted), and Tirana→UK—so give your departure airport a quick check before you set off.
When does the change start?
Ryanair’s digital-only policy kicks in Wednesday, 12 November 2025. From that date, you won’t be able to download/print a paper boarding pass; the airline will issue a digital pass to your app when you check in online.
Why the switch?
Ryanair says most customers already use mobile passes and that going fully digital makes the process faster and greener (the airline cites cutting 300 tonnes of paper a year) while unlocking app features like live flight updates and disruption rebooking.
Are there any exceptions?
Yes. Due to local rules, you still need a printed boarding pass when departing from:
- Morocco
- Turkey (all airports except Dalaman)
- Tirana → UK flights
For these, check in online and bring a physical printout.
No smartphone, dead battery, or lost phone?
If you’ve already checked in online and your phone is lost or runs out of battery, Ryanair says you’ll be issued a free boarding pass at the airport (or assisted at the gate after security). Passengers without a smartphone who checked in online will also get a free pass at the airport.
Important: if you haven’t checked in online and show up at the airport, expect the usual airport check-in fee.
Check-in timings that matter
- With paid seat selection: online check-in opens up to 60 days before departure.
- With a random (free) seat: opens 24 hours before departure and closes 2 hours before.
- Airport check-in desk: typically opens ~2 hours before and closes 40 minutes before departure. Don’t cut it fine.
What this means for you (practical steps)
- Install/Update the myRyanair app and sign in well before travel.
- Check in online as soon as your window opens; your digital pass will appear in the app.
- Double-save your pass inside the app (and keep the app logged in).
- Carry a power bank and keep airplane mode on to conserve battery.
- Flying from Morocco/Turkey (except DLM) or Tirana→UK? Print your pass.
FAQ
Can I bring a printed pass “just in case”?
From 12 November, Ryanair doesn’t issue print-at-home passes for most routes. Use the app. Only the listed exceptions require a printed pass.
Will staff help if my tech fails?
Yes—if you completed online check-in, staff will print a pass free of charge or assist at the gate.
Is this definitely happening this week?
Yes. Ryanair confirmed the move to 100% digital boarding passes from Wednesday, 12 November 2025; consumer outlets have also flagged the switch.
