Fly2Galicia: Europe’s Newest Budget Airline Launches From Santiago With 8 Routes and Fares From €19

Europe is getting a brand-new budget airline. Fly2Galicia starts flying on 1 December 2026 from Santiago de Compostela, with eight routes, 17 weekly departures and fares starting at €19 one way. Five of the routes are international — Brussels, Prague, Munich, Venice and Milan — and three are domestic Spanish links to Zaragoza, Alicante and Granada.

Everything operates from Santiago de Compostela. The schedule builds up over the first four days of December rather than starting all at once.

Alicante is the only route with three weekly flights. Everything else runs twice a week, which means most destinations are a fixed weekend-or-midweek proposition rather than something you can fly on any day.

How Much Do Fly2Galicia Tickets Cost?

The headline €19 applies to the cheapest seats on the shortest routes. Reported starting fares by group:

• From €39 — Milan and Brussels
• From €49 — Munich, Prague and Venice

As with every low-cost airline, those are lead-in prices on a limited number of seats. Some outlets have quoted international fares from around €40, so expect the real price on a popular date to sit above the advertised minimum.

The Baggage Rule That Actually Sets It Apart

This is the genuinely interesting part. Fly2Galicia includes two pieces of hand luggage in every fare, including the cheapest: an 8 kg cabin bag plus a personal item.

On Ryanair and Wizz Air, a cabin bag that size is a paid extra or requires a priority bundle, and it routinely costs more than a €19 ticket. If Fly2Galicia keeps that policy, a genuinely cheap fare stays genuinely cheap once you add a normal carry-on — which is the single most common reason budget fares balloon at checkout.

Why Galicia, and Why Now?

Galicia sits in Spain’s far north-west and has never been especially well connected to the rest of Europe. Most journeys involve a connection through Madrid or Barcelona, or a long drive from Porto.

It also lands while Spain is being fought over by the big low-cost carriers — Wizz Air opened its first-ever Spanish bases in Madrid and Valencia earlier this year. Fly2Galicia is doing the opposite: one small airport that nobody else is prioritising.

The timing is not an accident. 2027 is a Holy Year — an Año Santo Xacobeo — because the Feast of Saint James falls on Sunday, 25 July 2027. Holy Years bring a large increase in pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago, since completing the pilgrimage and certain rites in the city allows Catholics to obtain a plenary indulgence. The last full Holy Year drew a significant surge in visitors.

Launching a Santiago-based airline in December 2026 puts Fly2Galicia in position for the whole of that Holy Year, and its season runs to 24 October 2027 — through the peak Camino walking months.

What to Know Before You Book

A brand-new airline is not the same proposition as booking Ryanair, and there are a few things worth weighing.

It is a virtual airline, at least at first. Fly2Galicia sells and markets the flights, but another licensed carrier operates them under a wet-lease arrangement — aircraft, crew and operating certificate all come from that partner. Aviation trade press has identified the operator as Romanian charter carrier FlyYo, though the airline itself had not confirmed the name at announcement. Fly2Galicia says it intends to take over operations itself once the routes are established.

One aircraft covers everything. All 17 weekly flights run on a single A320 based at Santiago. That is efficient, but it also means there is no spare aircraft standing by — a technical problem on one rotation can affect the rest of the day. A second aircraft is planned for summer 2027.

Twice-weekly routes are unforgiving. If a flight is cancelled on a route that only operates two days a week, the next available seat on that airline could be several days away.

None of that makes it a bad deal — it is how most small European start-ups begin, and the fares and baggage allowance are genuinely competitive. Just book it with the same mindset you would apply to any new carrier: pay by card, know your EU261 rights, and think twice before building a tight connection around it.
