Wizz Air’s wider Italian growth also feeds into Spain
Wizz Air is also opening a new base at Turin, adding seven routes including Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia and Málaga – while Venice Marco Polo continues serving Málaga, Bilbao, Alicante and Seville through the winter. Combined with the Turin base, Italy becomes one of the best-connected countries to Spain in Wizz Air’s whole network.
The 16 Spanish airports in Wizz Air’s network
Madrid-Barajas, Valencia, Barcelona, Alicante-Elche, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Seville, Bilbao, Santander, Asturias, Palma de Mallorca, Zaragoza, Tenerife South, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Ibiza and Menorca.
Why this matters for travellers
Two brand-new bases and Wizz Air’s first domestic Spanish routes mean far more competition on routes that were previously served only by Iberia, Vueling or Ryanair – which should push fares down, especially between regional Spanish cities like Bilbao, Santander and Santiago de Compostela that have had limited low-cost domestic options until now. For international travellers, it also means many more direct routes into Spain from the UK, Poland, Italy, Romania and Albania without connecting through a major hub.
