The Ryanair Sicily winter 2026 schedule is the airline’s biggest ever: 88 routes from Catania, Palermo and Trapani-Marsala, 17 of them new, announced on 21 October 2026. We checked Ryanair’s own timetable and fare calendar the same day: 15 of the new routes are in the winter timetable from 25–27 October, and one-way seats cost from €14.99, less than the “from €24.99” launch sale.

Ryanair says the schedule will carry 12.5 million passengers a year, 9% more than now, with 11 aircraft based on the island. It also uses the announcement to press the Sicilian Government to scrap the municipal tax on air tickets at Palermo and Catania, as it already has at Trapani.

Below you’ll find every new route with its start date, flights per week and the cheapest fares we found. We also show which “new” routes are really new, what Sicily’s weather is like in winter and which airport to pick.

On 21 October 2026 Ryanair published what it calls “our largest ever Winter schedule for Sicily” in a press release on its corporate site. These are the headline numbers:

  • 88 winter routes, including 17 new ones.
  • 11 based aircraft, a US$1.1 billion investment: 5 in Catania (+1), 5 in Palermo (+1) and 1 in Trapani-Marsala.
  • The Trapani-Marsala base is extended to cover the full winter season.
  • 12.5 million passengers a year, up 9%, and more than 9,500 jobs supported on the island, by Ryanair’s own estimate.
  • A seat sale “from €24.99”, available in the Ryanair app.

Ryanair is already the biggest airline in Italy. In Sicily it flies from three airports: Catania-Fontanarossa on the east coast, Palermo Falcone Borsellino in the north-west, and Trapani-Birgi (Trapani-Marsala) on the west tip.

The same release is also a lobbying document. Ryanair says it would add 5 more aircraft and 3 million passengers a year if the municipal tax goes at Palermo and Catania too, which we explain further down.

How we checked the numbers. On 21 October 2026 we downloaded Ryanair’s timetable for every route from the three airports, and its day-by-day cheapest fares for each new route in both directions.

Counting the routes with regular flights between 25 October 2026 and 27 March 2027 gives exactly 88: 40 from Catania, 37 from Palermo and 11 from Trapani-Marsala. Seven more summer routes have their last flights between 27 and 29 October and are not part of the winter schedule.

Which are the 17 new Ryanair routes from Sicily?

The table lists all 17 routes Ryanair named, with the first flight in the winter timetable, how many days a week it flies and the cheapest one-way fare we found in each direction between 25 October 2026 and 27 March 2027. Fares are Ryanair’s base price for one adult with a small under-seat bag.

* These routes already flew in summer 2026 (Ryanair’s timetable shows flights on 21–24 October). What is new is that they now carry on through the winter. Flight times allow for the time difference to Dublin and Porto (one hour behind Sicily) and Sofia (one hour ahead).

The calendar shows the same thing at a glance. Fifteen of the routes run for the whole winter, and two start in spring.

Timeline of Ryanair's 17 new Sicily routes for winter 2026/27: 15 routes fly from 25 to 27 October 2026 until 25 to 27 March 2027, with Catania–Valencia 7 flights a week, Catania–Warsaw Chopin 6, Catania–Alicante, Catania–Porto and Trapani–Milan Malpensa 5, Palermo–Prague 4, and the rest 2 or 3 a week; Catania–Wrocław starts on 30 March 2027 and Catania–Dublin is not on sale yet.

New routes from Catania (CTA)

Catania gets nine of the 17 new routes. Valencia is the busiest, with a flight every day, followed by Warsaw Chopin six times a week and Alicante and Porto five times a week. Gdańsk, Memmingen and Rimini fly three times a week.

One detail for Polish travellers: Ryanair’s Catania flights to Warsaw move airports. The timetable shows Catania–Warsaw Modlin flights ending on 28 October 2026, three days after Catania–Warsaw Chopin starts. If you have flown from Warsaw to Catania before, check which airport your booking uses.

The two routes marked for later are Catania–Wrocław, which starts on Tuesday 30 March 2027 and runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays from €110.99, and Catania–Dublin, which was not bookable on ryanair.com when we checked.

New routes from Palermo (PMO)

Palermo adds six routes. Prague flies four times a week, Parma and Tirana three times, and Dublin, Gdańsk and Sofia twice a week.

Four of them, Dublin, Gdańsk, Parma and Prague, were summer routes that now stay all winter. Tirana and Sofia start fresh on 25 and 27 October. Tirana became a Ryanair base in 2026, as we covered when Ryanair launched 21 new routes from Tirana.

New routes from Trapani-Marsala (TPS)

Trapani’s two “new” routes, Milan Malpensa (five a week) and Verona (Fridays and Sundays), were both flying in summer and now stay for the winter. With the base kept open, Trapani has 11 winter routes. All but two are within Italy; the exceptions are Malta and Bratislava.

How cheap are the new Sicily routes? What we found in Ryanair’s fare calendar

Ryanair’s sale says “from €24.99”. Its own fare calendar is cheaper than that: 10 of the 15 new routes flying this winter have a €14.99 or €15 one-way fare on at least one day. The other five start at €16.56 (Palermo–Parma) or €19.99 (Catania–Warsaw and Palermo–Dublin, –Gdańsk and –Prague).

The catch is how few days are that cheap. Across all 15 routes and both directions we looked at 2,392 flight days. Only 535 of them, about one in five, had a fare of €24.99 or less. On a typical day a one-way seat out of Sicily costs €28.59 on Trapani–Milan Malpensa and up to €66.09 on Palermo–Prague.

Dot chart comparing the cheapest and the median one-way Ryanair fare from Sicily on each new route in winter 2026/27: cheapest days between 14.99 and 21.99 euros, typical days from 28.59 euros on Trapani to Milan Malpensa to 66.09 euros on Palermo to Prague, against the 24.99 euro sale price.

Which month is cheapest?

November is the cheapest month to fly, followed by December. For each route and direction we took the cheapest fare in each month. The table shows the lowest of those and the typical (median) one. Fares climb from February, and in March only 6 of 30 route directions still dip to €24.99 or less.

Month Lowest fare Typical cheapest fare per route Route directions with a fare ≤ €24.99
Late October 2026 €14.99 €19.99 18 of 30
November 2026 €14.99 €15 25 of 30
December 2026 €14.99 €19.99 26 of 30

Ryanair’s base fare includes one small bag that fits under the seat (40 × 30 × 20 cm). A 10 kg cabin bag (with Priority) or a checked bag costs extra, and both are priced per flight. Fares change daily, so treat these as a snapshot and check before you book.

Why is Ryanair growing at Trapani? The municipal tax explained

Italian airports add a municipal surcharge, the addizionale comunale sui diritti d’imbarco, to every departing passenger’s ticket. In Sicily it is €6.50 per passenger at Palermo and Catania.

In July 2025 the Italian Senate approved an exemption for Sicilian airports with fewer than 5 million passengers a year: Trapani, Comiso, Lampedusa and Pantelleria. The Sicilian Region pays the cost from its own budget, €6.6 million according to the Regione Siciliana. The exemption took effect on 1 January 2026, and Ryanair opened a base at Trapani-Marsala the same winter.

Ryanair’s argument is simple: the tax went at Trapani and traffic grew, so scrap it at Palermo and Catania too. If that happens, it says it would base 5 more aircraft in Sicily (a US$500 million investment), add 3 million passengers a year and create more than 2,400 jobs. Sicily’s regional minister for infrastructure and mobility, Alessandro Aricò, credits the tax cut for attracting airlines, and points to the Region’s flight bonus, which refunds part of the fare on domestic flights for Sicilian residents.

The release also attacks EU climate policy. Ryanair says Corsica, Malta and Cyprus get support for sustainable aviation fuel funded by the EU Emissions Trading System, while Sicily does not. It also warns that proposed ETS changes could raise fares on short flights to and from the island.

What it means for you: for now, nothing has changed at Palermo and Catania. The €6.50 is included in every ticket departing there, while departures from Trapani no longer carry it.

Is Sicily worth visiting in winter? Weather in Catania, Palermo and Trapani

Sicily is one of the mildest places in Europe that Ryanair flies to cheaply in winter. In January, the average afternoon high is 17.5 °C in Catania and 15.1 °C in Palermo and Trapani. Compare that with 8.8 °C in Dublin, 3.9 °C in Prague, 3.5 °C in Sofia, 3.0 °C in Wrocław, 1.7 °C in Gdańsk and 1.0 °C in Warsaw.

Catania, on the east coast, is the driest and sunniest of the three, with about 184 hours of sunshine in January against 148 in Trapani. Palermo has the most rainy days, around 9 to 10 a month from November to January. You will need a jacket in the evenings everywhere, as nights drop to 6–10 °C.

Winter also has things you cannot see in summer. Mount Etna, one of Europe’s tallest active volcanoes at about 3,400 m, is often snow-capped above Catania. The city’s Feast of Saint Agatha, which peaks on 5 February, is one of the largest religious festivals in the world.

Museums, archaeological sites and old towns are far quieter than in July. For more ideas, read our list of the best places to visit in Sicily.

Catania, Palermo or Trapani: which airport should you fly into?

  • Catania (CTA), 40 winter routes: the biggest choice and the best winter weather. Fly here for Etna, Taormina, Syracuse and the Baroque towns of the south-east.
  • Palermo (PMO), 37 routes: best for a city break. Palermo has the cathedral, the Norman palaces and street markets, and is the gateway to Monreale, Cefalù and the north coast.
  • Trapani-Marsala (TPS), 11 routes, mostly from Italy: for the west, with medieval Erice, the Marsala wineries, the salt pans and ferries to the Egadi Islands. Trapani is the airport without the €6.50 tax.

If you are coming from Poland, Catania has the most options: Gdańsk and Warsaw Chopin are new, and Katowice and Krakow already fly all winter. Earlier deals we posted from Krakow to Sicily and Prague to Sicily show how low those fares can go. For somewhere to stay, see our 4-star hotels in Sicily deal.

FAQ: Ryanair Sicily winter 2026

What are Ryanair’s new routes from Sicily for winter 2026?

Ryanair named 17: Catania to Alicante, Dublin, Gdańsk, Memmingen, Porto, Rimini, Valencia, Warsaw Chopin and Wrocław; Palermo to Dublin, Gdańsk, Parma, Prague, Sofia and Tirana; and Trapani-Marsala to Milan Malpensa and Verona. Fifteen fly this winter. Catania–Wrocław starts on 30 March 2027, and Catania–Dublin is listed from March 2027.

When do the new Ryanair Sicily routes start?

Most start with the winter timetable on 25–27 October 2026 and run until 25–27 March 2027. Seven of them (Palermo–Dublin, Gdańsk, Parma and Prague, Catania–Rimini and Trapani–Milan Malpensa and Verona) already flew in summer 2026 and simply continue through the winter.

How many routes does Ryanair fly from Sicily in winter 2026/27?

88, according to both Ryanair and our count of its timetable: 40 from Catania, 37 from Palermo and 11 from Trapani-Marsala, to 18 countries. In a typical January week that is 556 departures from the island.

Is the €24.99 Ryanair Sicily sale fare real?

Yes, and many fares are lower. We found €14.99 one way on 10 of the 15 new routes flying this winter. But only about one flight day in five costs €24.99 or less; a typical day costs €28.59 to €66.09 one way. November and December are the cheapest months.

Does Ryanair fly from Dublin to Sicily in winter?

Yes. Palermo–Dublin flies twice a week (Mondays and Thursdays) all winter, from €19.99 one way out of Palermo and €27.99 from Dublin. Catania–Dublin is planned from March 2027 but was not on sale on 21 October 2026.

Which Sicilian airports are Ryanair bases?

Catania (5 aircraft), Palermo (5 aircraft) and Trapani-Marsala (1 aircraft). That makes 11 aircraft, including one added in Catania and one in Palermo this winter, and the Trapani-Marsala base now covers the whole winter season.

Why does Ryanair want the municipal tax abolished in Sicily?

The municipal surcharge adds €6.50 to every passenger departing Palermo and Catania. Sicily removed it at its smaller airports (Trapani, Comiso, Lampedusa, Pantelleria) from 1 January 2026. Ryanair says it would add 5 aircraft, 3 million passengers a year and 2,400 jobs if Palermo and Catania were exempt too.

What is the weather like in Sicily in January?

Mild. Average highs are 17.5 °C in Catania and about 15 °C in Palermo and Trapani, with lows of 6–9 °C and 6 to 9 rainy days in the month. Etna is often covered in snow.

Can I fly from Poland to Sicily with Ryanair this winter?

Yes. Catania has winter flights from Gdańsk, Warsaw Chopin, Katowice and Krakow, and Palermo from Gdańsk, Warsaw Modlin, Krakow, Poznań and Wrocław. Gdańsk–Catania, Warsaw Chopin–Catania and Gdańsk–Palermo are new this winter.
