Tunisia, officially known as the Tunisian Republic, is a country in Northern Africa that has a Mediterranean Sea coastline in the very center of Mediterranean Africa. Tunisia lies immediately to the south of Italy and Malta. Libya borders Tunisia to the south-east, whilst Algeria lies to the west. Its northernmost point, Cape Angela, is the northernmost point on the African continent. Geographically, Tunisia contains the eastern end of the Atlas Mountains and the northern reaches of the Sahara desert. Its 1,300 kms of coastline includes the African conjunction of the western and eastern parts of the Mediterranean Basin and features the African mainland’s second and third nearest points to Europe after Gibraltar.
