VIETNAM to extend e-visa validity to 90 days
During its ongoing fifth session on June 24, the National Assembly made a significant decision to extend the validity of tourist e-visas in Vietnam. Starting from August 15, 2023, tourists will be able to enjoy an extended stay of 90 days, compared to the previous limit of 30 days.
The approval of this extension means that once granted an e-visa, foreigners can freely enter and exit Vietnam multiple times within the 90-day period, eliminating the need to go through the hassle of obtaining a new visa each time.
In addition to the extended e-visa duration, citizens of countries that currently benefit from unilateral visa exemptions in Vietnam will now be granted temporary residence for 45 days, a significant increase from the previous 15-day period. These individuals will also have the opportunity to apply for visa issuance and extension in accordance with the regulations.
With an overwhelming majority of 95.14% of deputies supporting the decision, the 15th legislature successfully approved the amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on the Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens, as well as the Law on Foreigners’ Entry into, Exit from, Transit through, and Residence in Vietnam. This new law will officially come into effect from August 15, 2023.
Le Tan Toi, the Chairman of the NA Committee for National Defence and Security, emphasized that the implementation of online immigration procedures will greatly enhance the efficiency of entry and exit management, benefiting both Vietnamese citizens and foreign visitors. The introduction of online systems aims to streamline the process and create more favorable conditions for all parties involved.
Currently, Vietnam issues e-visas to citizens of 80 countries through its electronic transaction system. However, it is important to note that the existing e-visa is valid for a single entry only. With these recent changes, Vietnam is making significant strides in facilitating tourism and further strengthening its position as an attractive destination for travelers from around the world.
