BA STRIKE: BRITISH AIRWAYS CANCELS ALMOST ALL FLIGHTS

Have you heard about British Airways Strike? British pilots union went ahead with a strike and BA says it was forced to cancel “nearly 100 per cent” of flights for Monday and Tuesday. The strike was called for by BALPA – the British Airline Pilots Association. They are calling for higher wages.

British Airways (BA) is the largest airline in the United Kingdom based on fleet size, or the second largest, behind easyJet, when measured by passengers carried. The airline is based in Waterside near its main hub at London Heathrow Airport. In January 2011 BA merged with Iberia, creating the International Airlines Group (IAG), a holding company registered in Madrid, Spain. IAG is the world’s third-largest airline group in terms of annual revenue and the second-largest in Europe. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and in the FTSE 100 Index. According to its website, BA Pilots Association represents more than 10,000 pilots in the United Kingdom which is more than 85% of all commercial pilots who fly there.

What flights are affected by BA strike?

British Airways said that they were forced to cancel many flights because with no detail from BALPA on which pilots would strike, they had no way of predicting how many of them would show up to work or which aircraft they are qualified to fly.

The airline also said that customers who had flights booked for Monday and Tuesday will likely not be able to travel as planned and they advised customers not to go to the airport.

BRITISH AIRWAYS made a statement on Twitter also.
