Volotea has been forced to ground its fleet and cancel flights

Uncertainty created by Coronavirus is taking a toll in everyone’s lives. Over the past few days, despite all efforts to avoid it, Volotea has been forced ground nearly all its fleet and to cancel most of their flights in March and until late April.

Volotea is a Spanish low-cost airline headquartered in Barcelona with bases in Spain, Italy and France. Volotea was established by Alaeo S.L. from Barcelona, a company created by former Vueling founders, Carlos Muñoz and Lázaro Ros. The name “Volotea” originates from the Spanish verb “revolotear,” meaning “to fly around.” It commenced operations on 5 April 2012, from Venice Marco Polo Airport. The company is backed by three private-equity funds, two of them from Europe (Axis Participaciones Empresariales and Corpfin Capital) and a third one from the United States (CCMP Capital), whose chairman, Greg Brenneman, one-time President and COO of America’s Continental Airlines, also chairs Volotea’s board. The company raised over €50m before operations began.

“As for us, we’re using this pause in our operations to get as ready as ever, to take off and be able to serve you as we’ve always done. Whether it is visiting your friends and relatives, taking a vacation, or any other business you might have away from home, we always strive to be there for all of our passengers. Rest assured, we will be flying again very soon, connecting the small and medium sized cities in Europe, which is what we do best, and, as always, we’ll do it placing our customers at the center of what we do,” Volotea stated.
