Seychelles allows vaccinated tourists to enter the country without quarantining

The Seychelles has reopened its borders and dropped quarantine requirements to all travelers who’ve been vaccinated against Covid-19. Fully-vaccinated visitors are now permitted to enter the 115-island nation without having to quarantine for 10 days provided they present a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours of travel. Travelers must also submit an authentic certificate from their national health authority as evidence they’ve received both doses of the vaccine, CNN reported.

To be recognised as vaccinated, visitors must show that they have taken the complete dose of the vaccine – “ie, two doses plus two weeks after the second dose for the four vaccines currently receiving heavy media exposure,” Seychelles’ Tourism Board stated. Non-vaccinated visitors, with some exceptions, are still unable to enter the Seychelles. This rule “will be in force until mid-March, once Seychelles has vaccinated a large majority of its adult population,” the tourism board has said. At that point, “the country will open up to all visitors, vaccinated or not“, though arrivals will still need to show a negative PCR test result obtained less than 72 hours prior to travel, Independent wrote.

Tourism is arguably the most important industry to the Seychelles’ economy, with 15 per cent of the working population directly employed by the sector. The relaxed restrictions for vaccinated tourists are being introduced in the hope that this can give a much-needed economic boost to the country. With travel accounting for 30 per cent of the GDP, the Seychelles has been hit hard by the current pandemic, so, like other tourism-dependent nation, the country is hopeful that a vaccine will help restart the industry soon, according to Euronews.
