After the US closed its borders to many countries, including the UK and the Schengen area of Europe last March, speculation has been growing about when this would occur. President Trump initially signed the Presidential Proclamation only to overturn it as he was leaving office. However, President Biden decided to reinstate the ban until more Americans had been fully vaccinated. In September, the US administration announced that it would reopen in “early November,” for fully vaccinated foreign nationals but with no announcements with only two weeks to go, airlines grew frustrated and canceled flights, according to Forbes.

Earlier today, Bloomberg announced that 8 November 2021 had been confirmed as the start date for international arrivals from banned countries and the land border with Mexico and Canada.

Air travellers will need to show proof of vaccination on arrival to the U.S., but will still need to show a pre-departure negative COVID-19 test taken within three days of travel prior to boarding their flight. The same policy applies for air travellers coming to Canada from the U.S. A number of details are still being determined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). That includes the type of documentation that will be accepted to prove a traveller’s vaccination status and whether or not travellers with mixed doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be considered fully vaccinated, CBC reported.

However, the CDC has informed applicable airlines that any vaccine approved in the U.S, as well as vaccines that have been approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization, will be accepted for air travel.
