Norwegian nationals who have recovered from Coronavirus won’t have to undergo any quarantine requirement for 12 months, as the validity for the recovery certificate, issued by the Norwegian state, has been prolonged, the authorities announced.

The change enters force on Saturday, August 28 and will apply to all of those able to confirm their condition by Norwegian health authorities, Schengen Visa Info reported.

“We now have good knowledge that indicates that people who have had the COVID-19 disease are well protected for at least 12 months. Therefore, we extend the exception from the quarantine of infection for this group,” Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie said.

The recovery certificate in the digital format will be available by September 9.

On the other hand, the European Commission issues certificates only to those who have recovered from COVID-19 within the last 180 days, which means that nationals of other European countries will not benefit from the extension of the certificate validity.

After that, the person has to prove their infection status by providing a positive PCR test at health authorities, undergo quarantine for a certain period – depending on the country’s health sector recommendation – and provide another PCR test, indicating the person is now negative for the virus.

Currently, the European countries, including here Norway, are using the EU Digital COVID-19 Vaccination Passport, a document that allows EU citizens to travel freely and safely across the continent amid the pandemic.

However, the decision to extend the exemption for entry quarantines will require large technical resources, but many categories will benefit from the change. Adults in this group can get permanent exemptions from the entry quarantine by getting vaccinated, while children can reduce the quarantine time by presenting a negative PCR test taken after three days, according to Schengen Visa Info.
