Denmark removes several travel restrictions

Denmark is the newest country announcing the facilitation of travel rules in spite of the high number of COVID-19 cases prevailing across the continent. On Friday, the Ministry of Health has decided that several restrictions will be removed, including pre-entry testing requirements, expansion of the number of vaccines accepted for entry into the country, restrictions on cruise tourism, and more, according to Schengen VIsa Info.

The temporary stricter requirements for pre-entry testing, introduced on December 27, are now being phased out. The previous general entry restrictions that were in force before the introduction of the tightened temporary entry restrictions will continue from Tuesday, February 1 and provisionally until February 28, 2022,” the Ministry notes in a press release announcing the easing of the measures.

It further announces that the list of vaccines accepted for travel into the country has also expanded by four more vaccines which are part of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s list of vaccines approved for emergency use. As a result, the following vaccines are now accepted for travel to Denmark:

  • Pfizer/BioNTech
  • Moderna
  • AstraZeneca
  • Janssen
  • Novavax
  • Covishield
  • Covaxin
  • Sinovac
  • Sinopharm

And finally, the country has also lifted the restrictions on cruise tourism by applying the same restrictions for these tourists as for all other incoming travellers.

Thus, starting from Tuesday, February 1, Denmark permits entry for persons from all over the world, given that they have a valid proof of vaccination with a recognized vaccine. Those who have been previously infected with COVID-19 can also enter the country.

Persons entering the EU and Schengen without valid proof of vaccination with a recognized vaccine or previous infection must take a test within 24 hours of entry unless you have a negative antigen (48 hours) or PCR test (72 hours) made prior to entry,” the Ministry of Health explains.

As per travellers from Bahrain, Chile, Colombia, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Kuwait, New Zealand, Peru, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Uruguay who attempt to enter Denmark without valid proof of vaccination or recovery, they must present negative results of a COVID-19 test taken within the last 24 hours.

Travellers from the rest of the world countries who enter on the basis of a negative COVID-19 test should isolate upon arrival in Denmark. They can, however, leave isolation if they test negative for a COVID-19 PCR test no earlier than on the sixth day of their isolation, Schengen Visa Info reported.
