France is the nation with the highest level of commitment to climate action when it comes to airports, with 15% of the 425 airports across the world that are trying to reduce their carbon emissions as part of the global airport carbon accreditation. The Airports Council International (ACI) Europe highlighted the work of French airports in terms of decarbonization during the fourth annual congress of French & Francophone airports, which was organized by the Union of French & Francophone Airports Associates (UAF & FA). This revealed that the nation is a leader when it comes to climate action, Schengen Visa Info reported.

These 63 airports represent 30% of the 219 airports in Europe that have been accredited as airports decreasing emissions, and 15% of the 425 airports worldwide that have received such accreditation, according to ACI Europe.

Oliver Jankovic, Director of ACI Europe, commented on the matter and praised the 63 airports for their efforts to cut emissions while connecting French towns and regions, calling France’s commitment “enormous.” “The UAF & FA, with its unique initiative tackling all the obstacles in the way of airport decarbonisation and concrete climate actions, sets an example to follow. I welcome this cooperation and its potential to enable faster decarbonisation of airports,” Jankovic said.

Additionally, it is observed that since the Coronavirus pandemic outbreak in early March 2020, a total of 22 French airports have joined the program of global airport carbon accreditation, and 25 of them have obtained greater levels of accreditation than before. The initiative is also a component of the EU’s 2030 Climate Target Plan, under which the bloc aspires to reduce its gas emissions by at least 55% from 1990 levels by that year. By 2050, the block wants to have zero net global GHG emissions, according to Schengen Visa Info.
